Homeowners Insurance and Storm Damage
If you think your Homeowner’s Insurance will cover everything related to storms, you may want to take another look at your policy. While many things are covered, there are some things that are NOT usually covered under the typical policy.

Damage Usually NOT Covered
This is where things can get tricky sometimes. As we all know, with tornadoes and hurricanes, you usually have a great deal of rain. If that rain collects and causes damage to your house, insurance companies will say this is flooding and try to deny coverage. In the case of hurricanes in hurricane-prone areas, a separate policy is needed, even though your current policy covers wind damage. How can you prove your wind was from the hurricane and not from storms caused by the hurricane?
We find too often that many of our clients are not as familiar with their insurance as they should be. It’s not really hard to get up to speed on your homeowner’s policy. Just take the policy by your insurance agent and ask for an explanation. The agent will be glad to help. If you are already having problems with your insurance company, you may need a lawyer to help you.
